이명건(p), 오재명(b), 김건영(d)으로 이루어진 이명건 트리오는 2008년 가을부터 클럽 무대를 중심으로 활동을 시작했다. 서울예술대학을 졸업한 이명건은 현재 활동 중인 한국의 피아니스트 중 가장 강렬한 타건을 지닌 연주자 중 한 사람으로 평가받고 있으며, 경희대학교를 졸업한 오재영과 김건영 또한 재즈 씬 뿐 아니라 다양한 영역에서 연주활동을 펼치고 있는 연주자들이다. 이명건 트리오는 제1회 맥(MAC) 재즈 콩쿨(2010년) 단체부문 3위를 시작으로 오디오가이 콩쿨 1위, 제5회 자라섬 국제 재즈 콩쿨(2011년)에서 '심사위원 특별상'과 '베스트 솔로이스트'를 수상하며 2관왕을 차지하는 등 국내 재즈 씬을 이끌 피아노 트리오로 인정받고 있다. 현재 첫 앨범 [The Best Is Yet To Be]를 발매한 후 클럽 등지에서 활발한 활동을 벌이고 있다.

The Lee Myung Gun Trio started in the Korean Jazz scene in 2008. Lee majored in jazz piano at the Seoul Institute Of the Arts and has a reputation as one of the most promising up and coming jazz pianists in Korea due to his strong playing style. Bass player Oh Jae Young and the drummer Kim Gun Young studied music at Kyung Hee University, and have been immersed in the Korean music form a young age.

The Lee Myung Gun Trio won third runner-up in the first MAC Jazz Competition in 2010, won first place in the Audioguy Music Competition, and received the Judge's Choice and Best Soloist in the Jarasum International Jazz competiton in 2011.

In 2012, they released their first instrumental jazz album 'The Best Is Yet To Be'.
